Ever stop to think about the real message behind the Garden of Eden? We hear a lot about Adam’s failure to lead, but what about Eve? I rarely see women reflect on the fact that the Garden story shows how we are the weaker vessel. How our emotions can cloud judgment, and how much influence we carry in a man’s life. It’s always, “Well, the man should’ve led better.” And yes, he had a responsibility. But so did Eve.
I think we overlook just how much weight we carry in a relationship. Influence can build a man or break him. Think about Proverbs 14:1, “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.” This isn’t just about homemaking; it’s about the power a woman has to create stability and strength, or to introduce chaos. Abigail, in 1 Samuel 25, is a prime example of positive influence. Her wisdom and quick thinking averted a disaster that her husband, Nabal, had brought upon their household. She stepped in, acted decisively, and saved the day.
That’s exactly why we need covering, order, and godly leadership. Our influence is powerful. It’s a force that can shape the men around us, for better or worse. Delilah, in Judges 16, shows the destructive side of influence. She manipulated Samson, leading to his downfall. Her actions highlight the immense responsibility that comes with a woman’s ability to sway and persuade. It’s a call to wield our influence with wisdom, discernment, and a deep sense of accountability.
